Philbert Business Analyst
Somewhere out there, a software project is failing. Or delaying, or dragging on. A lot of the times when this happens you will hear that the cause was a ‘lack of proper communication’. Now what exactly does that mean?
The thing is this: clients speak a different language than developers! Clients are business people, that spend all of their working time thinking in their market, using words that all of their colleagues, partners and customers understand, because they are all in the same business.
Developers don’t know about this ‘business’. They know about solving low level problems, about programming languages, about open source developments. Therefore, words and terms that the client uses can have a completely different meaning to the developer. Or sometimes no meaning at all!
This disconnect can have grave consequences: delays, budget overruns and a lot of frustration.
To prevent problems like these, you need a professional who is curious enough to delve into the business of the client, and who takes his time to do so.
A professional that has experience and affinity with technology, and who has been a developer himself and therefore knows what developers and testers need to understand what it this that they should build and test.
